Take a chance…take any chance

Days ago I began a series entitled “Get in the game.”  The main focus being we have way to many “Christians” sitting on the sidelines expecting the rest of the world to accomplish God’s work.  We need a passionate people sold out for God’s work and a  people that refuse to give up until it’s accomplished.  I wanted to take a moment and share an encouraging story with you all.  Moments after posting the entry I had my wife read it and she said it was good and she really enjoyed it and thought others would as well.  Even after having her say that I entertained the idea of removing the post.  Not because my wife approved but because Satan began throwing thoughts at me that I’m not worthy to post this stuff, “what are you doing Chris that’s so amazing”, “how are you going to call others out on their lack of work/effort”, etc, etc.  I was really moments away from removing the post.  I ordered Satan out of my mind and went on to bed.  The next morning I woke up and had the following comment on facebook “no way bro…that is my message this Sunday…VISIONEERING! Getting in the game! Your post is awesome!”  Now, to you guys that may not sound like much of anything but let me tell you why it hit home with me.  First, it reassured me that God orchestrates things for His purpose and it blows me away that I posted something that my mentor, one of my favorite teachers of the word, one of the most respected men of God I know was already in the process of working on.  Second, I just mentioned it; Randy Pardue is the man that posted that on my facebook.  Randy Pardue could stand toe-to-toe with any of the three men listed on my blog as “speakers I enjoy listening to”…I just don’t happen to have a video of him teaching.  Of all the speakers, teachers and pastors I have ever worked with I have learned far more from Randy Pardue than any other.  He has taught me how to love like Jesus.  He has taught me to keep my head up and stay in the game.  He has taught me that no matter what the world throws at me, God will take care of his children.  The amazing thing is that all of these things he taught me through his actions and not necessarily his words.  Not only did I get that message on facebook but only an hour or so later one of my greatest friends Brent Patterson placed an encouraging comment on the post as well.  Again, it just made all the sense in the world to me that God intended on my writing that post.   It may not sound like much to you reading what he posted on my facebook but it made my day and reassured me that people still want to hear….need to hear what God has to say!!

Take a chance….take any chance

Look guys!  I know that sometimes it’s not easy making the move.  I’m reminded of a funny story.  You’ll love this!  Several years ago, back when myspace was popular, I was home (living with my parents at 24) and digging around on myspace.  How was I single, right?  Well, while I was kicking it on myspace, a young lady named Holly Aldrich logged on and we began chatting.  During our conversation  I asked her if she would be interested in hanging out sometime (I’ll spare you the exact convo).  That’s right, I asked my future wife out for the first time on myspace.  I couldn’t be more proud as I’m typing this.  Wait, WAIT, it gets better.  Her response was “are you serious?”…….ouch with a capital OUCH, right?  Not only am I pathetic enough to ask her out on myspace, her response wasn’t “sure, sounds fun” or “yeah, when would be a good time” or even “let me think about it”… nope, no no.. I get “are you serious?”  What do you say to that?  How do you respond?

I took a chance!!! I stepped out on a limb (apparently a fragile one)!!  I made the move, pulled the trigger.  Obviously this example doesn’t compare to surrendering your life to the one Christ has for you.  However, there is useful information contained in the story.  See, the end result is that Holly Adlrich became my wife.  I experienced the thrill of victory because I took the chance.  I could have let worry set in and prevent me from taking action (if you call typing a myspace message action) but at least I made the effort.  You see, she would have had nothing to respond to had I never said anything. 

Baby Steps

Have you asked yourself what’s holding you back?  What are you afraid of?  What’s the worst that could happen?

Isn’t it time you applied for that job?  Asked out the girl/guy?  Started the business? Bought the house? Started the family?

Maybe there’s a past relationship that went down the drain and ended horribly.  You’ll never full experience all God has for you until you get that handled.  Pick up the phone, write a letter, handle the situation and then take off full force with God leading the way. If risk taking isn’t your thing, just take baby steps.  Moving forward a little at a time is better than remaining still.

 

 

What are you doing right now that requires faith?  What are you doing right now for the kingdom?

 

 

Right now you are on the edge of greatness!  God has called you to great things, that’s a given.  All you have to do is decide to take step or stay where you are. 

If you are sick of living a life striving for mediocrity then pray “God, I want you and I want it all.  I don’t just want to be sitting the bench, riding the pine, or on the sidelines..I have to be involved, fully involved, completely involved.  I’m taking the chance and allowing my faith to produce.  Keep your promise God because I’m going all in.”

Now, get after it!

Get in the game!

If we are being honest, and we should be, we would all admit that it would be much easier to sit around and point fingers, call out names, identify all wrong doings, any short-comings, what should have been said, who should have been in charge and how we could have done it so much better.   Sometimes it seems easier just to sit back and watch and for some sad reason we seem to take pleasure in others failures. 

 

SERIOUSLY!?!?

C’mon guys!!  It’s time we get in the game.  Take the chance — take a chance — step out on faith — make a move — make any move — pull the trigger!!!  Like the quote from T. Roosevelt above says “the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena” … the one in the game.   You see, it’s not always about winning or losing it’s about doing something.  God’s word says in Deuteronomy 28:7 “the Lord shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.” 

The bottom line being…..you have to be involved, in the mix, doing something, working, getting after it in order for God to work for you. In Deuteronomy 28:12 the bible says “the Lord shall open to you His good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands; and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.”

Did you catch that? “Bless all the work of your hands”…note the word “work”.  What’s there to bless if your hands aren’t working.  Put your hand to the plow and start working and watch God show up and show out.  God wants to use you, bless you, lift you up to higher places but you have to be able to be used.

It’s time we experienced the thrill of victory.  If we happen to experience a couple of bruises, scrapes, scars and maybe a little pain on the way… isn’t it worth it? 

I’m continually amazed at people that seem to be strolling through life with one goal in mind…to arrive safely at death!  Again, SERIOUSLY?!?!  When it’s all said and done and you are standing before God, the creator….all you can say is “I made it and don’t I look good?”  Not me!  That will not suffice! My God deserves more than that.   While I’m still on this earth God has a plan for me and I intend on exhausting every option possible to accomplish it. Whatever that takes.  I will do my part to get God’s name into every area of this world.  Would you agree to make that promise too? 

Say “God, I intend to do whatever it takes to bring men to you… I’m tired of sitting on the sidelines and I want in the game.”  Now, get after it!

I’ve taken the liberty of putting together list of items that will not only make life more enjoyable but probably rank you among the top 3 coolest people in your circle of friends.

1. Bible

That’s right.  B-I-B-L-E.  You have to have one.  The BIBLE definitely makes living life easier.  I mean, it’s God’s word.. Straight from the creator.  Get you one (or two or three) and carry it with you everywhere.  You never know when you’ll have time to read it.  I prefer the “amplified version” but there’s a variety out there, find one you like and read it.

2.  iPhone

I’ll admit that  I fought the whole PC vs Mac battle for a long time.  I always thought I enjoyed PC’s and would never cross over.  Then I realized, I really enjoy products that work.  Thus my conversion.  I definitely recommend any apple product.  I will suggest that you purchase a nice hardshell case for your iPhone as breaking one does seem to cause minor stomach irritation (especially the phone call to your wife advising you dropped yours in the parking deck at work; or whatever the story may be)

3. Rainbows

If you’re still sporting old navy flops because you were trying to be “smart” with your money, or because you could walk in the store with a $20 bill and walk out with a bag full of items then you need to break down and purchase some of these. I’m currently on my second pair (still have the first they just have a small odor about them) and I’m in love.  They take about a week to really break in but after that, you’ll be hooked. 

4.  Rayban Wayfarer

Whether it’s the fact that you’re a huge Jack Nicholson fan or that you want to look like Brody Jenner (good luck with that by the way) from The Hills, these are a definite must. Step out of 2010 and go back to the future my friends, it’s the 80’s again and these are where it’s at. 

5.  Macbook

I must admit, as I’m entering this blog on my Dell laptop, that owning one of these is a dream of mine.  So, technically, it’s a “must have” but I don’t “have” at the moment.  My wife does have one so whenever she’s in a sharing mood I’m fortunate enough to get to play around a bit.  Again, I’m partial to things that work so my next computer purchase will be a macbook. Laptops are the way to go!  If you aren’t goin you’re slowin… you gotta be able to be on the move and you need your computer with you while you are.  It’s just that simple!

6. Swiss laptop backpack

I actually rotate between this and my Kenneth Cole leather briefcase but for comfort and ease this is the way to go.  The briefcase is definitely more professional looking and has fewer pockets but the backpack makes life so much easier.  With this backpack it has a side pocket for your computer as well as plenty of room for notebooks, books, iPhone pocket, etc.  These are great and extremely durable.

7.  Toms Shoes

 A buddy of mine told me about these and I had to check it out (Thank you Randy).  For times when Rainbow flops aren’t possible or to just mix it up, I recommend Toms shoes.  My wife just bought me a pair of these as one of the gifts for our anniversary and they are extremely comfortable.  Comort, however, really isn’t an issue when you consider that for every pair of Toms shoes purchased they give a pair to a child in need.  Look into this program and buy you a pair of Toms…they have them for Men, Women and Kids, get your whole family some!! After all, loving others is what it’s all about.

8.  Diet Mtn Dew

I don’t feel a strong need to explain this but I’m in love with Diet dew.  Deal with it!!  I prefer the 24oz big boys you can purchase at wal-mart in a 6 pack, those are great!  I prefer them chilled and not really on ice…a watered down dew just won’t work..write that down!

9. V-neck tee

I don’t have chest hair but if I did I’d be lettin it ride out the top of a v-neck tee all day long baby.  I’m a big fan of the v-neck.  Regular tees that are tight around my neck makes it feel like I’m being choked.  I’m also not a fan of under-shirts but sometimes due to the material of your top shirt you need an under-shirt and v-neck is the way to go.  If you haven’t tried it, do it; if you have and don’t like it… to each his own.

10. Axe hair products

Okay, so I don’t have a ton of hair but what hair I do have I rock!!  I’m currently rocking a little messy/spiked/hawk/i don’t care kind of look and to perfect the look I prefer axe “whatever”.. it’s the yellow one.  They have a variety so pick what works for you and rock it too!

Pastor Steven Furtick is an amazing man of God. He pastors a large church in Charlotte, NC named Elevation Church.  This clip comes from a message delivered during the most recent Presidential campaign.  You know, the one where “change” kept coming up.  “Change” was what we needed, “change” was going to happen, etc, etc.  Remember?!?!
